What space is included in the rental and how many people does it accommodate?
The Cumberland House is only rented to one client at a time, and includes these four area:
- The historic 1870 Italianate house includes the Stardust Room and Vanities Parlor, the Hamilton Room, the Dinetia Room, spacious verandas and entry hall, 2 bathrooms and a catering kitchen;
- The Garden Pavilion is a 40'x50' pavilion with high quality textile soft walls. The soft walls may be closed or opened to enjoy the beautiful setting of the gardens and lawns;
- The fenced and gated terraced lawns are suitable for tenting; and
- The Woodland Room is a glade in a stand of trees that forms a natural wooded room in the northeast side of the lawns.
The Cumberland House has many options for your event. The venue is a combination of indoor and outdoor event space, but mainly outdoor. While the Garden Pavilion is designed to accommodate up to 150 for a formal seated dinner or approximately 300 for a cocktail reception, those numbers can be adjusted depending on the seating layout and use of the house, veranda, Woodland Room and expansive meadow.
The house provides a catering kitchen, two bathrooms (with a third restroom in The Carriage House), bride's and attendants' dressing rooms, groom's and attendants' gathering space, a striking entry area, spacious downstairs and upstairs verandas, a dining room for buffets or for smaller seated dinners, and a unique and romantic historical ambiance with its Italianate architecture, high ceilings, magnificent woodwork, ornate iron railings, antique lighting fixtures and bricked walkways.
What furnishings are included with the rental?
Rental includes any combination of 150 white chairs, 32 fruitwood chairs, fifteen 60" tables, five 48" tables, five wooden 42" tables, and two 6' rectangular tables. Clients may arrange these as they wish, with the exception of wooden furnishings which are to remain on hard surfaces.
The Hamilton Room has a sofa, chairs, small tables and a flat screen television to serve as a gathering place for the groom and attendants. It also serves as a comfortable room to add space for other types of events.
The Dinetia Room can accommodate 30 for dinner, or can be set up buffet style for the food for the event. The five 42" round tables and 32 fruitwood folding chairs are usually used in the Dinetia Room, but the Client may use them as they wish, as long as the furnishings remain in the first floor of the house, on the spacious downstairs veranda and/or in the pavilion, and are returned to the Dinetia Room or kitchen in original condition by the end of the rental period.
The Stardust Room and Vanities Parlor furnishings include full length mirrors, mirrored vanities, a variety of seating arrangements, and two tables. Because of the weight of the furniture and the possible damage to the wood floor, all furniture except the chairs must remain in their place.
The hallways have limited stationary furniture.
Is wireless Internet available?
Yes, there are separate codes for the inside of the house and the Garden Pavilion. These may be shared with guests.
Is there a preferred caterer that must be used?
It is the client's option in choosing a licensed caterer, or whether they want to use a professional caterer. Please note that if the client opts to not use a professional caterer, the cleaning standard still must be maintained: it is the responsibility of the client to insure that all food residue is cleaned and garbage disposed at the end of the event. (The client may apply $100 of their security deposit to cleaning if they choose.)
Is there a Catering Kitchen?
The Catering Kitchen may be used to prep food. It has two large prep tables, shelving, sinks and refrigerator. Codes prevent any cooking on the premises.
Are there restrooms available?
There is a downstairs restroom, an upstairs restroom, and a restroom in The Carriage House.
Is parking available?
The Cumberland House is fortunate to have its own private parking area located across the street from the terraced lawns. (Enter from East Orleans.) Convenient additional parking is available on the street.
May I use the facility for planning purposes?
In addition to your original viewing, two thirty minute viewings are given at no charge. (Extra viewings are available for $25 per half hour.) If your vendors are unfamiliar with The Cumberland House, we encourage you to include them in the second viewing.
What is the rental deposit to secure the date?
Fifty percent of the rental fee, along with the refundable $300 security deposit and signed contract, are requried to reserve your date. The remaining 50% is due one month before the event. Exception is given for photo sessions.
